Chionanthus retusus in full bloom

Hitotsubatago (Chionanthus retusus) was in full bloom at the day taking this photo.
As you can see this, it blooms on its young leaves as like that snow or cotton is piling up.
This beautiful and delicate flower has also another name "Nanja-monja tree (flower)".
It means "the tree (flower) that is unidentified including its name but is known by everyone".
That much, the wonderness and beauty of this flower have been familiar since long ago, I guess.

満開のヒトツバタゴ

撮影当日は、ヒトツバタゴが満開でした。
ご覧のように、若々しい葉の上に雪か綿が積もっているかのように咲き誇ります。
この美しく、繊細な花には、「なんじゃもんじゃの木（花）」という別名もあります。
「なんていう名前でどういうものなのかはよく知らないけれど、誰もがよく見知っている木（花）」という意味です。
それほどにこの花の不思議さと美しさは、昔から人々に親しまれていたのでしょう。
