Komainu statue with close-mouthed form on a snowy day

This is a photo of the Komainu (guardian-dog) statue I took on the first shrine visit of 2021.
It was snowing and stopping that day, then Yatsurugi Shrine I visited was slightly snow-covered.
Komainu statues were also covered with snow, but the amount of snow was not great, rather, their shapes and facial features looked to stand up, so I shot them after worshiping.

Komainu statues at that shrine are also a pair of open-mouthed form and close-mouthed form, and the statue in this photo is one with close-mouthed form.
There is a small Komainu with open-mouthed form at its feet, but this is not its partner Komainu with open-mouthed form but a child Komainu.
Because a child Komainu is not covered with snow, this statue also looks like that a mother Komainu is sheltering a child one from the snow.
I just intended to shoot the strong figure even in the snow, but unexpectedly this seems a photo taken a heartwarming figure.

雪の日の吽形の狛犬

2021年の初詣に出かけた時に撮影した狛犬です。
当日は雪が降ったりやんだりしており、訪れた八剣神社もうっすら雪化粧でした。
狛犬たちも雪をかぶっていましたが、量は大したことがなく、形や表情がかえって際立って見えたので、参拝後に撮影したのです。
ところで、この狛犬をご覧ください。
この神社の狛犬も阿形と吽形の一対で、この写真は吽形のほうです。
その足元に小さな狛犬がいて口を開いていますが、これはパートナーの阿形狛犬ではなく、子供の狛犬です。
子供のほうには雪が積もっていないこともあり、まるでお母さん狛犬が子供を雪から庇ってあげているようにも見えます。
単に雪の中でも逞しい姿を撮るつもりでしたが、期せずして心温まる姿にも見える写真になりました。
