Komainu statue with open-mouthed form on a snowy day

This is a photo of Komainu (guardian-dog) statue I took in Yatsurugi Shrine where I visited for the first shrine visit of 2021.
Komainu statues were guarding the precincts with brave looks as usual even with a little snow.
This Komainu's partner with close-mouthed form has a child one at the feet, and this Komainu with open-mouthed form is protecting a precious stone with the left front foot.
This precious stone should be probably a symbol of the authority of the enshrined deity of this shrine, I think, but it looks also like a soccer ball because of its shape and pattern.
I have always felt close to Komainu statues of this shrine because they protect this precious stone and bring a child one.
Also, I love this shrine where such Komainu statues are guarding.

雪の日の阿形の狛犬

2021年の初詣に出かけた時に、八剣神社で撮った狛犬の写真です。
うっすら雪をかぶっていても、いつものように勇ましい表情で境内を守っていました。
相方の吽形は足元に子供の狛犬を連れていますが、こちらの阿形の狛犬は宝玉を左前足で守っています。
この宝玉は多分神社の祭神の御神威の象徴だと思いますが、形と模様とでサッカーボールのようにも見えます。
このような宝玉を守っていたり子供の狛犬を連れていたりするため、私はこの神社の狛犬たちに昔から親近感を感じています。
そして、そういう狛犬たちが守っているこの神社が大好きです。
