A small house with a thatched roof is a corner of Sasaragi Tanada (terraced paddy fields) in Ena City, Gifu Prefecture.
That's the house of this photo.
No one lives here, but it is managed by people in this district and used for events in the district, I hear.
This house was not relocated from anywhere else but has been built here for a long time, however its walls and pillars are clean, its thatched roof is well maintained, and its garden and vacant lots are weeded, so I could see well it is cherished.
Its appearance surrounded by green of trees is the old Japanese rural landscape itself, so not only did I feel calm, but I even felt nostalgic.

佐々良木棚田の茅葺屋根の小さな家

岐阜県恵那市の佐々良木棚田の一角に、茅葺き屋根の小さな家が建っています。
それがこの写真の建物です。
住人はいませんが、この地区の人々により管理されていて、地区でのイベントの際に利用されているそうです。
どこか他の場所から移築されたのではなく昔からここに建っていたものとのことですが、壁も柱も小綺麗ですし、屋根の茅葺もきちんと手入れされていたり、周辺の空き地も草刈りがされていたりと、大切にされているのがよくわかります。
周囲を木々の緑に囲まれての佇まいは、古い日本の農村風景そのままで、心穏やかになるばかりか懐かしい気さえします。
