Rice seedlings in the paddy field after weeding

This is a photo I took a paddy field of Sakaori Tanada (terraced paddy fields) about 1 month after rice planting.
When the seedlings hand-planted by volunteers took root, the preservation society staff weeded the paddy fields.
The weeding is the work of cultivating shallowly again with a compact tool between rows of rice seedlings.
Water in the paddy field looks muddy while weeding and immediately after weeding, but water in this paddy field was almost transparent enough to see the soil with footprints that might belong to the worker.
Also because there were no weeds between the seedlings, the weeding in this paddy field would have been completed before the shooting day.
Despite having been cultivated shallowly again right next to, the rice seedlings were standing firmly, increasing leaves, and growing up.
I was looking forward to the growth of these strong rice seedlings.

草取り後の水田

田植えから１ヶ月ほど過ぎた坂折棚田の水田を撮った写真です。
有志により手で植えられた苗が根付いた頃に、保存会のスタッフにより草取りが行われました。
草取りは、コンパクトな道具を使い、苗の列の間を浅く耕し直す作業です。
作業中や作業直後は当然水が濁って見えますが、この田は作業者のものだろう足跡が見えるぐらい、ほぼ透明でした。
苗の間には草がありませんでしたし、撮影日より前に作業が完了したのでしょう。
すぐ横を再び浅く耕されたにもかかわらず、苗はしっかり立ち、葉を増やし、伸びようとしていました。
この逞しい苗たちの成長が楽しみになりました。
