Waiting for taking turn or harvest

This photo is the scenery I found at a corner of Sakaori Tanada (terraced paddy fields) in early summer 2021.
There was 1 bunch of rice seedlings placed near the ridge in the paddy field.
The seedlings in the bunch were spares for being planted instead if the planted rice seedlings were not growing properly.
Since the paddy field in this photo had been already weeded, the seedlings in that bunch would not have had the opportunity of being planted instead into the rows.
But the bunch of seedlings will not be taken away, will grow at that place as it is and have rice ears.
Because, for farmers, the rice seedlings are an important asset that cannot be wasted, too.

待機中

初夏の坂折棚田の一角で見つけた光景です。
水田の中、畦の近くに１束、苗が置かれていました。
これは、植えられた苗の発育に問題が見つかった場合に、代わりに植えるための予備です。
この写真の水田は既に草取りが済んでいましたから、この束ねられた苗たちは交代することはまずないでしょう。
ですが、水田から取り除かれることはなく、この場所でこのまま成長し、稲穂をつけます。
農家にとって稲の苗は大切な資産なのです。
